Community engagements are often fraught, and sometimes fail to produce clarity, cohesion, trust, or follow-up actions. It is important to understand the conditions under which legitimate decision-making and power distribution happen well or poorly. This can be of great use to making a more adapted event into the future, and through those events, getting to a wider legitimacy for decisions and consequent actions. Such an analysis can also serve for training purposes. Participants can also use these guidelines to measure the qualities of a convening.
